Aliyah (to Israel)

Aliyah (to Israel)

Translation:

Ascending

Definition:

A permanent move to Israel. After a person ‘makes aliyah’ they are often referred to as an Oleh (m) or an Olah (f) (lit: one who ascends).

The Movement for Reform Judaism believes that a full Jewish life is both possible and desirable in many diverse areas of the world. At the same time, we see Israel as a powerful and meaningful aspect of Judaism. For those who desire to live their Jewish life in Israel, we support and encourage their endeavour.

The Movement for Reform Judaism does not consider this text to constitute the definitive answer on this subject. We believe that Judaism is a living, evolving faith and, as such, there is no 'final word' on Jewish texts, traditions and thought.
