RESOURCE, the Jewish Employment Advice Centre

 

RESOURCE was established in 1992  (as the Employment Resource Centre) to provide free support for unemployed Jewish people to get into or back to work speedily, efficiently and effectively.

RESOURCE offers clients skills via workshops, one-to-one consultations and seminars to improve their chances of finding work and learning how to network.

North West Surrey Synagogue is a flourishing and friendly Reform community of about 300 households, with an expanding Cheder of 55 students up to age 15, based in Weybridge, Surrey.  Our members are drawn from a fairly wide catchment area, including Weybridge, Woking, Esher and Guildford.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Head Teacher, with experience of working in an educational context, ideally in a senior capacity. The appointment is part time (18 hours per week, some of which may be worked from home) and is for 3 years in the first instance.  It will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months.  A starting salary of £16,800 per annum is offered, plus appropriate expenses.

The Pears Foundation, a British-based family charitable foundation, rooted in Jewish values is seeking an intern.

The Pears Foundation's  key areas of interest are:

  • Supporting the Jewish contribution to society
  • Identity, community and citizenship in the UK
  • Education on genocide
  • Israel as a global citizen
  • Exploring philanthropy

An intern with excellent organisational and communication skills, a professional manner and previous office experience is sought to provide support with office administration and assist with the implementation of our communications strategy. In return for this assistance, you will get an insight into the Foundation’s work and valuable experience of working in the voluntary sector.

Details:

The position is based at the Pears Foundation office in Hampstead, North London.
Ideally the Foundation are seeking a full-time intern until December 2010, but the hours are negotiable.
A basic stipend will be provided.

Key tasks will include:

  • Converting the Foundation’s hard copy files into an online archive
  • Supporting the implementation of the Foundation’s communications strategy
  • Assisting with office administration and event management
  • Shadowing the Director and Deputy Director

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Previous office experience (paid or unpaid)
  • Commitment to the aims and activities of the Foundation
  • Excellent written communication and research skills and a confident and professional phone and personal manner
  • Accurate data entry skills and excellent organisational skills
  • IT skills, especially Outlook, Excel and Word (experience of databases would be useful)
  • Understanding of the Jewish community in Britain

The position would suit a student or recent graduate looking to gain experience in the not-for-profit sector but all applications are welcome and will be given fair consideration.

JCLG Olympic Fellow

The Jewish Committee for the London Games (JCLG) is a committee set up by the London Jewish Forum (LJF), Maccabi GB, the UJIA along with Lord Janner in 2008 to ensure that the London’s Jewish community is fully engaged with the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

The group is aiming to work with Jewish schools and their communities in meeting Jewish Olympians; the development of welfare, culture and religious services for Jewish athletes in the Olympic Village; a London 2012 Jewish website and a programme of hospitality for visitors to the Games; the long-term legacy for the Jewish community within the five Olympic Boroughs and utilising sports to bring groups together and celebrate the cultural diversity of the city. The London Jewish Youth Task Force, which represents 19 youth projects (23.000 individuals), has since joined the JCLG.

The JCLG is seeking a part-time intern for 6 months to assist with its various project streams key to the JCLG’s work. This is an opportunity for someone completing a Masters or a recent graduate to gain experience of working with communities, sports and relevant branches of government. Principle responsibilities will include:

  • Organising JCLG Ambassadors’ launch and visits
  • Administering JCLG meetings
  • Writing and distributing JCLG Monthly Newsletter
  • Liaising with press and media contacts
  • Assisting with community sports programmes
  • Liaising with City Hall, LOCOG (London 2012, DCMS, Olympic Boroughs)

 

The post will be based near the South Bank / Bankside for 2 days a week, and begin in September 2010. A small stipend to cover expenses will be paid.
